Sublimation Printing Services for Custom Apparel Brands

Sublimation Printing Services for Custom Apparel

Sublimation printing delivers what no other decoration method can — full-color, edge-to-edge prints with zero hand feel. At DesignTo Clothing, our sublimation printing services are built for brands that want bold, all-over graphics on performance fabrics without compromising comfort, stretch, or durability.

Unlike screen printing or DTG, sublimation ink bonds directly into the fabric at the molecular level. The result is a print that will not crack, peel, or fade — even after hundreds of washes. If your brand demands vivid, photographic-quality graphics on sportswear, activewear, or fashion apparel, sublimation is the way to get there.

What is Sublimation Printing?

Sublimation printing is a heat-transfer process that converts solid ink into gas, which then permanently bonds with polyester fibers in the fabric. Because the ink becomes part of the fabric itself — rather than sitting on top like screen printing — the finished garment has no added texture, no stiffness, and no risk of cracking over time.

This process allows for unlimited colors in a single print, full edge-to-edge coverage, and photographic-level detail. It is the preferred printing method for all-over patterns, complex gradients, and designs that extend across seams.

The one key requirement: sublimation only works on polyester or polyester-blend fabrics in white or light colors. The ink needs polyester fibers to bond with, and dark base colors will interfere with the printed colors. If your garment is cotton or dark-colored, screen printing is the better option.

Printing Techniques

Sublimation Printing Methods We Offer

We offer two sublimation approaches depending on your garment type, production volume, and how far you want the design to go.

Premium All-Over

Cut-and-Sew Sublimation

The fabric is printed first as a flat sheet, then cut and sewn into the final garment. Your design runs seamlessly across panels, seams, and edges — no white gaps, no misaligned patterns. This is the method for true all-over prints.

Ideal for
Fast & Flexible

Finished Garment Sublimation

For simpler designs or smaller print areas, we sublimate directly onto finished garments. Faster and more cost-effective for designs that do not need to wrap across seams — chest prints, large back graphics, or front panel artwork.

Ideal for

What We Print On

Sublimation requires polyester or high-polyester-blend fabrics in white or light colors. Within that range, we print on a wide variety of garment types and performance textiles.

Our Sublimation Printing Process

Every order follows a controlled workflow to ensure color accuracy, pattern alignment, and consistent output across the full production run.

1

Artwork & Color Profiling

Send us your design (300 DPI minimum). We review, set color profiles, and prepare for output. Unlimited colors — no separation limits.

2

Transfer Paper Printing

Your design is printed onto specialized transfer paper using sublimation ink. We proof for color fidelity before pressing.

3

Heat Press Transfer

Transfer paper meets fabric at high temperature. The ink converts to gas and bonds permanently with the polyester fibers.

4

Cut, Sew & Assemble

Printed panels are cut to pattern and assembled. For finished garment prints, this is the final quality check stage.

5

QC & Finishing

Every piece is inspected for color accuracy and defects, then moves to packaging and shipment.

Sublimation vs. Other Decoration Methods

Sublimation is powerful, but not the right method for every project. Here is how it compares.

Sublimation Unlimited colors, all-over coverage, zero hand feel. Works on polyester and light colors only.
vs
Screen Printing Works on cotton and dark fabrics. Better for spot color logos and bold graphics. More cost-effective for simple designs.
Sublimation Full-color graphics, patterns, and photographic prints with a smooth, flat finish.
vs
Embroidery Small logos, text, and designs where a raised, textured finish adds premium feel. Works on any fabric.
Sublimation More vibrant, more durable on polyester. Zero hand feel. Best for performance and activewear.
vs
DTG (Direct-to-Garment) Works on cotton. Better for very small runs under 20 pieces. Higher per-unit cost, less fade-resistant.
